DJ Mars :: artist profile

Marcia Ghisi grew up in Florianopolis, Island of Santa Catarina, Brazil which accommodated a rich underground club circuit in the early days of house late in the eighties. In 1990 she moved to England, the most prominent breeding pit for electronic music in this era, which enriched her taste in music.

She completed a three year media, film and photography course during her stay in the UK and moved to Amsterdam in '98. Residing in the ELF squat Marcia got introduced into psychedelic trance which she devoured with great pleasure.

The combination of fluoro art, psychedelic trance music and sense of community on regular intervals inspired her creativity. After the place got evicted in 2001, she infiltrated the 9 Lifes of Hofmann (9LoH) crew to follow her new-found aspiration.

With 9LoH Marcia devoted her time and energy in the aspect of party creation and decoration. 9 Lifes motivated her to start DJ-ing and her alter ego Mars was born. After a 6 month tour through Brazil, Sweden and Belgium Marcia had a moment of clarity, from then on, Mars is a woman, and DJ.

Marcia closed down EarthDance Amsterdam 2003 in a back-to-back set with fellow female DJ Stella Nutella from Sweden. She kicked off EarthDance Amsterdam 2004 with a 2,5 hour psychedelic tranceset, warming up the dance floor for the internationally synchronized Prayer for Peace and a liveset by Bassid.
